About this listen

In the ominous corridors of 1950, Eleanor Mayfield flees from her tormented past into the chilling embrace of an eerie mental institution. Each night, reality blurs as whispers and ghostly visions relentlessly stalk her. Accompanied only by a devoted security guard and a cryptic caretaker, Eleanor plunges into the institution's sinister depths, unveiling terrifying secrets that should have stayed hidden.

Decades later, Alina MacLeod grapples with her own demons within those same crumbling walls. Hunted by a vindictive ex-lover, her discovery of ties to Eleanor's past draws her into a chilling moment of fear that defies time. Together, these women from different times untangle a haunting legacy of dread, confronting the horrors that link their destinies.

A glorious, disturbing to keep you listening all night long

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Narrated beautifully by Sarah Edwards, Whispers in the Dark consisting of two bone-chilling stories centered around and erie mental hospital that will test your own sanity if you can survive being there. It's also a harrowing, emotional journey of two strong women, forced by circumstances outside of their control to battle demons in their real lives to the hauntingly, dangerous illusions of the hospital, blurring the past and present into an enthralling tale.

Highly recommended.

Creepy Hospital

I enjoyed this paranormal story. A 1950’s mental hospital made a really good location, just the right creepy factor. I liked how the story bounced between past and present. I was listening to the audiobook, and something it was hard to know which time period we were in at the moment. I devoured the book in a single day, absolutely a good story on an autumn, cold and rainy day. Once I started, I did not want to stop listening. The author had good story building, good character development. Narration was well done. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Thrilling

This was a great book. Two stories intertwine to connect to one another. Both stories were good, but I enjoyed the 2nd one more. However, without the first story of Eleanor Mayfield, the second story of Alina MacLeod wouldn't have made much sense. An eerie mental institution and the hidden secrets behind it was the premise of both stories. It was definitely a horror read, but it wasn't as scary as I originally thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was still scary and had me at the edge of my seat, but I was able to listen to the audio version of the book at night which I originally didn't think I would have been able to. This book will shock you, make you sad, scared, horrified and sickened. I loved it! The audio book was narrated by Sarah Edwards who was amazing. The voices of each character were precise. She was so good and had my hairs up when she was voicing the "entities". She was phenomenal. If you are in the mood for a scary thriller, this is the book for you. Great read. Calum France has a way of writing I enjoyed. I will search out more books by this author.

creepy

this story instantly grabbed my attention, and it had me questioning what was real what wasn't. It takes place in a asylum that used to be a children's hospital. There was a tragic death of a child years ago. She haunts the asylum today. The story takes place two different times the second half of the book had me a little confused but at the end it kind of sorted it out.

A 5 Star Occult Horror Read

Whispers In The Dark: A Terrifying Story Spanning Decades. Abandoned asylums, children’s hospitals & veteran hospitals, some of the most haunted places on earth form the backdrop for this first time novel from author Calum France. Well written & enjoyable, spine-tingling & suspenseful. With its dual timelines this tale set in an abandoned mental institution almost seems like a collection of short reads joined together. Narrator Sarah Edwards’ voice & style were perfect for this book and added greatly to the listening enjoyment. I received an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I’ll have to get more books from this author as they’re published. If you enjoy C. Dennis Moore's Angel Hill books you'll probably like this. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
