About this listen

Ellen Klages’ debut novel, The Green Glass Sea, was lavished with praise, including the Scott O’Dell Award for historical fiction. This sequel continues the story of science enthusiast Dewey Kerrigan, now living with her friend Suze’s family in Alamogordo, New Mexico, after her father’s death. Against the backdrop of America’s quest for the moon, Dewey tries to find her place in the world.

Critic reviews

"Superbly written and rich in detail, Klages's novel once again nails the uncertainty that many Americans experienced after the truths of Hiroshima began to surface. History is intricately woven into the story of these memorable characters, and issues such as self-identity, family, and racism are explored. The desert heat is palpable, the immense expanses are easily visualized, and the roles that women and minorities played in the late 1940s are painfully evident." (School Library Journal)

Great next step in Dewey’s life

Dewey is an inspirational character. We loved the Green Glass Sea and went to Los Alamos after we listened to the book, so we were looking forward to the next one! It did not disappoint! Maybe the author can let us know what deeey does next!

Great historical fiction!

I love the strong female characters and the fact that they were scientists and proud of it.
