About this listen

Jake Rawlins fled to the mountains following the horrific years of the Civil War. He wanted to find peace in the high country where he could live quietly amid the natural beauty of the Rockies. It was not to be. During the building of a cabin where he thought he could find what he was looking for a series of visitors came to turn his world upside down. Jake was engaged in many battles he never wanted to fight. He found love, and loss, and purpose that first long winter.
From the icy covered peaks to the depths of a mysterious cave, Jake will have to use all the skills he has learned just to survive. Jake found beauty int he mountains, just as he found beauty in Willow, the healer shunned by her Blackfoot village because she bore a scar from a knife wound across her face and carried the child of a murderous white trapper who raped her.
The action does not stop. Jake is chased by a Blackfoot war party and is lost in a cave that is the home of a crazy old miner that the Blackfoot legend says is the devil himself. This is the first of the Jake Rawlins, Mountain Man series.
