About this listen

This is one of the most stirring and remarkable true crime stories in the history of America. From bank fraud, bribery, “blind tiger” saloons and cheating at cards, to poisoning, insurance fraud, Mickey Finns, murder and more, this is a fascinating look at the treacherous Taylor Boys. Well-heeled, well-educated, and well-protected by their cronies and cohorts, the two Missouri brothers would stop at nothing in pursuit of their prolific criminal enterprises. But there was one courageous little girl named Nellie Meeks, who brought down their whole operation and brought on a Hanging Bee.

Outstanding!

The narration was absolutely brilliant and pulls you in to the story. The information seems well researched and keeps you engaged throughout the entire book. I did have a question or two and the author was very accessible and willing to answer my question. Interesting part of history to learn about ! Highly recommend.

Murder and Retribution

This is a thoroughly interesting and informative book. It has all the elements of a western novel or movie - outlaw gangs, corruption, murder, jail breaks, river boats, train chases, hung juries - except it’s all true. Thanks to his excellent research and presentation of the facts, as well as his insight, Charles Huddleston (who, by the way narrates his story magnificently) has woven an amazing and adventurous, yet believable tale. Overall, he gives us a glimpse of life, good and bad, in the late 19th century. I also enjoyed the ballads about the murder. If you like this audiobook, I suggest you also get the paperback version from Amazon; it has many interesting photos and maps, as well as information sources. Whether you prefer fiction or nonfiction, I highly recommend this book. It will touch your emotions; intrigue, tension, sadness, outrage, and satisfaction.
