About this listen

The telephone rings. You just pick it up without thinking. It could be anyone. But this time it’s a killer and the killer’s got a name - and a victim. When Andy Zadinski picked up the phone that evening, he was cool. Just keep him talking. But when he called the police, they didn’t believe him. In fact, no one believed him, not even his father. After all, the whole thing was too weird to believe. Even Andy began to have doubts, until the killer started stalking him.

I remember finding this book in the school library when I was in 7th grade and thinking it was a book about werewolves because of the title lol, but once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. Here it is 22 years later and I still enjoy this book. Great narration as well.

Avi is an amazing writer. You feel the characters are real people in a real world making logical decisions, which is lacking in a lot of fiction especially YA fiction. Most stories try to tie up loose ends make every neat. The real decisions one makes in life often have open endings and characters that only know their tiny part of your story because you are a background character in their story. The ending is the perfect example of that. Only the "hero" knows he is a hero.

classic story

Would you try another book from Avi and/or Richard Ferrone?

My students enjoy books by Avi, but this recording was so slow, they lost interest.

If you’ve listened to books by Avi before, how does this one compare?

N/A

How could the performance have been better?

The reader needed to speed up.

What character would you cut from Wolf Rider?

I wouldn't cut any character.

Any additional comments?

This recording was so slow that it interfered with the enjoyment of the story.

very sloooooowwwwww

The boy is too stupid. I can’t listen to it. I’m not sure if this is normal in some families, but it’s not realistic in my culture, so it makes it too irritating to listen to. The boy is unusually disobedient and is being ridiculously dumb. This is my favorite narrator so it’s not him, it’s the writing.

Can’t listen to it due to the character
