About this listen

Dion was a healer and a wolfwalker, and the unique telepathic bond that she shared with the wolf Gray Hishn sometimes seemed to amplify her sensitivity to her patients. But she never guessed how strong that bond could be, or what kind of power it could wield, until she found herself lost in the wilderness, with angry slavers at her heels and war on the horizon.

Suddenly she and her fellow travelers were fighting for their lives in the snowy winter wastes, where the wolves were their only guides, the greatest secret of the ancients their only salvation...and Dion their only hope to survive.

Another book able to be revisited via Audible

Nostalgia brought me back to this series, after many years of unavailability.
I love audiobooks because I am physically unable to stay still.
Ms. Harper‘s Wolfwalkers series has been an enjoyable experience.
The healer Dion has an excellent spirit, & is flushed out quite well. I do find, however, that other characters are not quite as well done.
I still find it to be a great story-if incomplete as a standalone- and I am thrilled it is unabridged.
I recommend this for young adults -w/mostly female sensibilities-and also for those of us coming back to enjoy the stories of the Wolfwalkers.
On to the next one in the series! :)

A good book with to much detail

The story of the Healer/Wolfwalker was well thought out and well composed. The characters were well developed and interesting and the plot line was followed throughout the story and didn't waver back and forth. This book was really more fantasy than science fiction, but had elements of both. The only part of this book I did not like was the author tended to go into far to much detail about certain aspects of her gift. Some detail was defiantly warranted but I felt like fast forwarding to many times. Not something I find myself doing very often. Though I gave this story 3 stars I would have given it 3¾ stars if possible

Couldn’t put it down

Better have some free time or a long drive if you start this book. Lots of suspense, fast paced detailed action & rich environment make it hard to put down.

Not so good....

Multiple directions, no thought, little excitement. I'd compare it to Planet of the Apes without the great characters (yeah, that's sarcasm). Mostly the book just didn't do anything for me. It started slow and then ended. Maybe the other books in the series get better but I'll never find out.

If I were a teenage boy I might like this.

Non stop crisis. Very little story just lots and lots of action. I finally gave up halfway through. I would like to have felt something other than frustration. Seemed like the bad guys never lost and the little bit of power the wolfwalker had was useless. Sorry I wasted a credit in it.

no meat, just adrenaline

I might have liked this book as a teen. The setting and the ideas in the book are good, but the author has a few problems. The main character, Dion, is too much a reflection of the author's ego. The other characters in the book have no real existence beyond Dion's subjective vision. This would be fine if the book was first person limited, instead of third person omniscient. My second issue is that the narration leaps from crisis to crisis. Sometimes the crisis is physical, sometimes emotional, but it the time spent between these dire events is so scant and so rushed that the author clearly finds the time spent writing it an annoying bother.
Finally, the reader has no connection with the story, which is not the reader's fault, but it still makes the narration painful.

The story is good, but the execution is unpalatable.
