About this listen

What the hell is a vergozonth?

In the year 2380, Titania's neon-lit domes thrum with the rhythms of a musician's heart. For Ada, her vergozonth instrument isn’t just her passion—it’s her lifeline. But when it’s stolen, her music fades, and she’s left stranded with no way to afford the treatments keeping her alive.

Desperation drives her into the orbit of Nick, a charming yet ruthless smuggler who offers a deal too tempting to refuse: rare medicines, a steady income, and the promise of freedom after a final run. Trained as a fighter and forced into the underworld of Uranus’s moons, Ada finds herself thriving amidst danger. But on her last mission, ambushed by notorious pirates, she uncovers a shocking truth about her cargo—and her own resilience.

This time, survival will require more than her musical talents. Ada must decide: will she take her life back, or lose herself in the shadows of the system forever?

Trans Porter Ada

"May as well let you have a look," Ada said coolly, her voice betraying none of the adrenaline coursing through her veins. "Since I'll be the last thing that you ever see in your wretched life, lizard…"

The Nyokai's hiss was a guttural sound of distaste as it dropped Erick with a thud. The boy scrambled away, a mix of fear and confusion on his face. "I know how much you serpents hate superheated ionized gas. More effective than vertikron pulses, don't you think?"

Without waiting for an answer, the reptilian smuggler charged, claws bared and eyes burning with murderous intent. Ada's finger tensed around the trigger, and she unleashed the wrath of the cannon. A high-velocity sphere of plasma erupted from the barrel—a dazzling orb of blue-white energy charging toward its target with deadly precision.

The impact was instantaneous. The Nyokai's left leg burst in a horrific display of blood and sinew, painting the cold metal floor in shades of violent crimson. It let out a roar of pain, yet its momentum propelled it forward, undeterred by the gaping wound.

"Oh boy…" Ada's curse was a whisper lost in the chaos. She fired again, a second sphere slamming into the creature's chest. Its scales cracked under the assault, the force of the blast slowing its advance to a stagger. But the fiend was close now, too close. Ada could see the fury in its remaining eye, feel the heat of its breath. As it lunged, a claw found purchase in her left shoulder, slicing through fabric and flesh with equal ease. Pain exploded in white-hot streaks, radiating down her arm, and threatening to buckle her knees.

She stumbled back, gritting her teeth against the scream that tried to claw its way out of her throat. Blood dripped warm and wet down her arm, but she couldn't afford to acknowledge it—not yet. With grim determination, she adjusted the cannon's setting to maximum, the weapon humming with contained power that thrummed through her injured body.

The Nyokai was upon her, its claw still embedded in her shoulder, drawing her close enough to smell the stench of its breath. She turned her head away and aimed the rifle directly at the reptilian's head. Her thumb found the trigger...
