22. Improve Your Gut, Improve Your Thyroid: How Gut Health Impacts Hypothyroidism

  • Summary

  • Bloating, stomach pain, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and acid reflux were a part of my long list of symptoms that I experienced for years before my Hashimoto’s diagnosis. We often view digestive symptoms as annoying and uncomfortable and even inevitable, but they’re also very important clues to what’s going on with our health.

I began digging into the research and learned about the three-legged stool of autoimmunity, a concept that shows that all autoimmune conditions, including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, consist of three “legs”:

    1. A genetic predisposition
    2. Exposure to a trigger like stress, trauma, toxins, etc.
    3. Intestinal permeability aka, leaky gut syndrome

And that’s what we’re going to get into today.

In this episode, that’s what we’re talking about… leaky gut and hypothyroidism. We’re chatting through what leaky gut is, how to know if you have leaky gut syndrome, and how to begin working on healing. Because when you work on healing your gut, you see improvements in many other aspects of health, including hypothyroidism and many of the symptoms that go along with it.
