When combining OCD with autism people can become hyper-focused on one particular subject or person. This hyper-focus can either be healthy if it is a positive special interest or it can be unhealthy if it is a negative special interests.

He talks about how positive special interests lead to good mental health and negative special interests lead to poor mental health. The opposite is true that poor mental health leads to negative special interests and good mental health leads to positive special interests.
