Being the current world champion with a strong side, England was counted as a favourite in this World Cup. However, the Three Lions are showcasing an abysmal performance so far. Pakistan was also treated as a strong contender for the semi, considering their bowling attack and batters’ recent form, but they are also finding it hard to win matches.

It was a perfect team effort where the batters put a decent total on the board on which the bowlers, especially the world-class Afghan spin trio, capitalised to secure one of the most significant victories of Afghan Cricket.

Pakistan started well in the most anticipated World Cup match, but a sudden batting collapse resulted in getting them all out for only 191. India had no problem whatsoever in chasing down this easy target.

Two centuries from Kusal Mendis and Samarawickrama helped Sri Lanka put on a massive score of 344, which was eventually not enough to avoid their second defeat in the World Cup campaign, thanks to the heroic knock of Rizwan, who was well-supported by Abdullah Shafique.

After the defeat against the Kiwis, the current world champion returned strongly in their second match, securing a big-margin victory of 137 runs.

Three centuries in a single innings, two in the top order from Kock and Dussen, followed by a 49-ball century from Markram, the fastest ever in CWC history, resulted in a massive score for South Africa against Sri Lanka. The Lankan batters also joined the party in the batting paradise of Delhi, but it was not enough to avoid the defeat.

It is an ideal start to the World Cup campaign for the Tigers, who have lost a home series against Afghanistan in the recent past. An excellent display of bowling, fielding and a comfortable run chase will surely boost the confidence of the Bangladesh team.
