  • ATG 237: Summer Soundtracks Part 1: I Am the CEO of My Actions, Not My Outcomes
    Jul 7 2025

Have you ever felt frustrated trying to control things that are completely out of your hands? In this episode, I'm kicking off a new summer series where I randomly pick cards from my Soundtracks Conversation Deck and share the mindset shifts that can change everything. Today's soundtrack: "I am the CEO of my actions, not the CEO of my outcomes." We'll talk about why remarkable people focus on what they can control while accepting what they can't, plus I'll share how this one shift helped me stop getting mad at Nashville weather (yes, we get more rain than Seattle—I looked it up like a complete dork). Ready to let go of outcomes and lean into action this summer? Listen to this episode now.

Mo Bunnell, author of Give to Grow, says that's one of five lies keeping us stuck—and he's got the research to prove it. In this episode, Mo breaks down his "Cut to Climb" process (30 minutes quarterly to find 50 hours you'll never waste again) and his MIT system for weekly planning that actually works. Plus, you'll hear about his genius ChatGPT setups for family, work, and decision-making that sound like something from the future. Oh, and yes, we definitely talk about his green-cheeked conure and miniature donkey. Tune in to hear more!

  • ATG 235: 3 Things I Learned From Simon Sinek That Changed Everything
    Jun 23 2025

A few years ago, Simon Sinek and I had the same editor. Since then, I've had the chance to learn from him, and let me tell you—it's been a game changer.

In this episode, I'm sharing three lessons Simon taught me: why you should be able to draw your idea on a napkin, why short beats long every time, and the power of being kind to people behind you. Plus, I'll tell you about an unexpected birthday surprise that perfectly illustrates why the encouragement you put out comes back to you in ways you never expect.

Whether you're building a business, writing a book, or chasing any dream, these insights will save you time and help you think differently about success. Time to get started on that thing you've been thinking about doing.

Setting goals? this is the podcast that you NEED! I have always been a goal nerd THEN I retired early and I got lost. Listening to Jon reminded me the power of goals. I am back in grad school and setting personal goals. Suddenly the happiness of making and achieving is back. Halfway through AND a 4.0 Thanks Jon!

Many people tell me that I am a “visionary” and have the most amazing ideas, and that feels great right up till the part where I don’t ever actually do the thing or I start and never finish!!

There have been so many episodes that I start and instantly blush because I just know Jon and his guest are totally calling me out!! It is almost like Jon has the same brain as I do aaaand has some experience with this exact issue I struggle with!! 🤣

In the last year I have started AND finished more goals than any other year so far, and a lot of it had to do with Jon’s books and this podcast!!

Jon makes a goal to read 100 books a year, and one of his suggestions on how to be successful doing this is to always have books in the queue so you don’t have to think about it. One of my favorite things about the podcast is that he asks each guest for a list of their favorite books, so after every episode I add those books to my wishlist on Amazon so I ALWAYS have something to read next!!

I really believe everyone out there can benefit from listening to these episodes because the knowledge within each one can be easily applied to personal or professional life!!!

Keep the good stuff coming Jon and Team!!!

Full of excellent, actionable content that keeps you entertained until the very end. Jon is very personable and down to earth while also pushing listeners to live out their best lives vs. settling for what's currently in front of them. Great master class for beginners on how to make and accomplish goals. However, it's also a great listen for experienced leaders who just need a gentle reminder of why we set and fight for goals every day.

Excellent podcast for a year of change!

I have now listened to about 25 episodes of All it Takes is a Goal. Jon is lively, easy to listen to, easy to get addicted to, very easy to learn from, and fun! I have come back and forth to this show over the last 3-4 weeks, because I get distracted by the books he and his guest speak about (one of the best parts of his show)! I just finished the episode where he and his daughter interview each other, the respect, love, honor, and pride in his daughters voice when talking to and about her father was the last motivating factor I needed to finally write this review. Well done Jon, thank you for being the type of human being everyone can look up to, and presenting your authentic self to us in the show.

Jon is authentic (the highest compliment I give)!
