His words are powerful and should be read not only by Black academics but by anyone in higher education.” – Marybeth Gasman – Forbes Dr. Schexnider's books are thoughtfully crafted, reflecting his deep expertise and careful research. This is his fourth book. His articles have appeared in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, and Trusteeship. His practice is limited to board governance, the framework that defines how a board operates, including its policies, procedures, and structures. It also establishes the roles and responsibilities of board members and executives. Dr. Schexnider also teaches executive coaching and strategy. Alvin has led three higher education institutions, including two Historically Black Universities. He is an award-winning author who has written extensively about leadership and governance. His opinion editorials have appeared in the
Atlanta- Journal-Constitution, the Baton Rouge Advocate, and the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Alvin is the recipient of seven gubernatorial appointments and a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA). His numerous honors and awards include the Grambling State University Distinguished Alumni Award, the Alpha Phi Alpha Distinguished Educator of the Year Award, and the Urban League Silver Star Award.
