Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard

By: Armchair Umbrella
  • Summary

  • Hi, I’m Dax Shepard, and I love talking to people. I am endlessly fascinated by the messiness of being human, and I find people who are vulnerable and honest about their struggles and shortcomings to be incredibly sexy. I invite you to join me as I explore other people’s stories. We will celebrate, above all, the challenges and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and betterment. What qualifies me for such an endeavor? More than a decade of sobriety, a degree in Anthropology and four years of improv training. I will attempt to discover human “truths” without any laboratory work, clinical trials or data collection. I will be, in the great tradition of 16th-century scientists, an Armchair Expert.

  • Acquired Podcast on the NFL (with Ben Gilbert and David Rosenthal)
    Feb 5 2025

Ben Gilbert and David Rosenthal (Acquired) are hosts of the critically acclaimed podcast covering business history and strategy. Ben and David join the Armchair Expert on this special Super Bowl episode to discuss the metric of being right more often but having less fun, how the Super Bowl is the best weekend for a wedding, Disneyland, and Costco, and how LA refused to participate in early games due to segregation. David, Ben, and Dax talk about Teddy Roosevelt starting the NCAA in 1905 to prevent football fatalities, JFK passing antitrust legislation for televising football, and how the NFL uniquely collectivizes resources so all teams get equally distributed resources from league-wide television deals. Ben and David explain the breakdown of the gentleman’s agreement between the AFL and NFL to not poach players, how the formation of the NFL compares to the founding of the United States, and why Monday Night Football revolutionized modern television.

  • James Marsden
    Feb 3 2025

James Marsden (Paradise, Jury Duty, X-Men) is an Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actor. James joins the Armchair Expert to discuss paying the price for such a dominant chin, the reality of being an Oklahoman in Los Angeles, and still feeling like every job is his last job. James and Dax talk about the story of meeting after Dax lost a role to James, sharing an enduring appreciation for mens’ bodies, and comparing notes on starring in shows that trick people. James explains that being a middle child is the sweet spot of siblingry, learning that he was the subject of a Corny Collins fantasy, and how acting in Jury Duty really was the tight rope of all tight ropes.

The interview she does

I don't dislike this show at all. he seem to ask all the questions. I want to ask about a personality that I'm interested in. I definitely will be. Listening to more episodes. . I especially like the episode of Jeff Bridges. Keep up the good work Dax. Love your car movie. You shouldn't be allowed to own those cool cars.

BRILLIANT and Funny!

SO HAPPY AE is now available here! Such a a fun podcast. Entertaining AND can be educational. Dax and Monica have open minds and seem to like learning new things about how and why people do what they do. Their relationship is serious and sweet. I've been listening to this podcast from day one and have even gone to one of their first in person shows. Highly recommend!

Anonymous Armcherries

The brave souls who bare all while hiding in closets telling their stories have been the highlight of my listening. I fell upon this podcast traveling 14 hours by car and laughed the whole way! Zac and Monica are my new favorite interviewers.

Anonymous episodes are worth listening to

The call in anonymous guests with their prompted stories are usually really good. The expert guests are usually interesting and somewhat helpful. The rest is out of touch celebrity echo chamber.
