Art Frat Rejects Write a Murder Mystery is a weekly story podcast in which three college friends take turns writing chapters of a crime novel. They can't confer, they can't edit, and they can't plan. What ensues is the raucous, riveting, and ridiculous tale of Moletown and the traveling carnival that descends upon its domain one fateful summer. When a teenage girl is found dead in her bedroom, a serrated blade through her heart, a studly police officer, adolescent computer science genius, self-proclaimed wine mom, and a slew of other indelible characters are spurred on to uncover a conspiracy that may just shake their Pacific Northwestern hometown to its core.

  • S1E1 • Welcome to Moletown (Chapter 1)
    Mar 27 2021

[SPOILERS] We open on an eerie traveling circus and fairground called Signor Romanzo’s House of Wonders. Signor Romanzo is in his caravan making dinner and he sings a Romanian song his dead mum taught him. He’s preoccupied because the BDSM — Board of the District of Suburban Moletown — is writing angry letters asking that the carnival leave town. A bunch of other carnival people get introduced but we’ll talk about them later. The most important one is Wilhelmina who is a fortune-telling child. We cut to Wendy, the BDSM president. She’s venting to her friend Alicia Allotoza about her husband’s affair and the negative influence of the carnival. They decide to picket the carnival so go to her daughter Clara’s room to get craft tools for signs. They find the teenager stabbed dead. Back at the House of Wonders, Inspector Golphini, a Moletown police officer, and his German shepherd, Elaine try to arrest Signor Romanzo for Clara’s murder. Alas, Signor Romanzo escapes as if by magic.

    Apr 3 2021

[SPOILERS] We open on Wilhelmina at her day job as the head of the computer science department at Clairmont University. After leaving work, Signor Romanzo teleports into her car and tells her to look for a red Moleskine journal. Once she gets to the carnival, Inspector Golphini's there to question her, and we learn that they are romantically involved. She can't find the journal among Signor Romanzo’s possessions. Six weeks later (Huber loves a time jump), a woman named Ruby Red suffocates the Chief of Surgery at Moletown Memorial Hospital, Christopher Kandel, and takes a folder labeled “Clara” from his house (as well as his Rolex!) We learn that she and Wilhelmina are in cahoots.

  • S1E5 •Golphini's Pursuit (Chapter 4)
    Apr 24 2021

[SPOILERS] Moletown's Chief of Police ain't happy with Golphini’s progress on the Willoughby case, but little does he know that Golphini has Romanzo’s notebook, a potential piece of bigshot evidence. At the precinct, we meet Officer Matthews, Golphini's whiny deputy. He's meant to have a Brooklyn accent but it comes out as Southern. (Huber's fault). Golphini attempts to ask Wilhelmina out on another date, thinking the first was a success. He genuinely likes her but needs to also use her for the case. When she turns him down, Golphini devises a Plan B to get more info out from her. He ventures to the carnival and has his fortune read by Madame Goirée, Wilhelmina’s fortune-telling alter ego. However, what she says does not bode well for the inspector.

  • S1E6 • Josephine (Chapter 5)
    May 1 2021

[SPOILERS] We open on Wendy Willoughby in her daughter, Clara's, bed mourning her premature death. Signor Romanzo shows up and we learn that he has the power to materialise like a hologram before certain individuals he has control over. We also, more shockingly, learn that Wendy herself used to be part of the House of Wonders! Romanzo reveals that he does not think Clara is actually dead, and that he needs to find a crystal of Californium to find Clara and harness the full might of his mystical powers. Once romanzo disappears, Wendy finds a series of letters written by Clara, impersonating Wendy... or rather Wendy's old name — Josephine. Dazed and in shock, Wendy makes her way over to Alicia’s house for a BDSM meeting. However, when faced with no sympathy or condolences, she freaks out and curses out the other ladies in attendance. The chapter ends with her storming out of the house, destroying Alicia's flowerbeds, and heading for the beach that keeps being referenced for some mysterious reason...

    May 8 2021

[SPOILERS] We race down Utility Way with Golpini, Elaine, and Matthews in a high-stakes chase towards Vanderlyle Asylum. Golphini has received an anonymous phone call from a weird robot voice, informing him that Signor Romanzo is squatting at Vanderlyle Asylum. The inspector, deputy, and pooch race to the scene and apprehend the perp, hauling him back to the precinct, where he's interrogated, but speaks little. However, things take a turn when Golphini shows his captive a photo of a woman with blazing red hair. This elicits the first words from the taciturn Signor Romanzo, "She's back! Ruby Red!" Signor Romanzo is sent to bed without supper. Golphini believes this mysterious ginger could be the key to finding Clara's murderer...
