    Benched, The Podcast: Chapter 13
    August 26th, 2021
    Show Notes

We’re back! So, did we begin with Sha’Carri Richardson finishing in last place in her most recent race? Nope. How about Jameis Winston making Sean Payton look good? Nope. Well we must hit the most predictable story of the year, Cole Beasley being thrust into Covid-19 protocols…Nope!

We start with one of the worst run franchises in North American sports over the last 25 years…The Washington Football Team. They have announced the 8 finalists for their new name, and the choices are rather pathetic. It’s so obvious they are going out of their way in order to not offend anyone. Armada? Defenders? Presidents? One of us actually didn’t mind Red Hogs in an ode to the Hogs of years past. But the best idea, came from the Presidents…see if you agree. This segment also temporarily veered off into what is the best appetizer. We had to alert Ro to the fact that most scallops aren’t actually scallops…ewwww!

Then we discussed Tony Hawks newest piece of merch. Skateboards with his blood in them! They go for $500 and we had some thoughts on this…

Finally, we got into some golf! Couple of cool stories this week, first JR Smith got his NCAA clearance to play for NC A&T. We love this and want to know which streaming service carries HBCU golf matches? Seriously…we want to watch. Mic his ass up! Aldo, did you see Hideki Matsuyama hit a drive that landed in a guy’s shirt? Seriously…IN HIS SHIRT!

Benched The Podcast. Chapter 12 – Show Notes:

We returned from yet another Summer Break right smack dab in the middle of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. We’ll get to that in a moment, but Chapter 12 begins with a common theme of this show…Adding flavor to sports announcing. That takes us to Savannah where the Savannah Bananas play as part of the Coastal Plain League. Last week player Bill LeRoy walked up to the plate with not only a bat in hand, but also a wireless microphone, and proceeded to introduce himself to the crowd and serve as his own hype-man! We have the audio and it’s spectacular. How did he do? Homerun? Strikeout? Hit play and find out!

Next, we got our Olympic talk on with some controversy that struck the equestrian competition. Now while none of us have ever owned or regularly ridden horses, we can imagine that from a horse’s point of view, a statue of a life-sized sumo wrestler crouching in an aggressive manner right next to an obstacle you’re supposed to run up to, might cause a horse to say ‘fuck that’. That of course led to our three loveable hosts to debate how to get the fattest one of them to dress up like a sumo wrestler…for the good of the ‘brand’.

Lastly, after a weird robot playing basketball story, we got serious for a minute and debated where breaking the 3-minute mile falls on the list of all-time great human athletic accomplishments. Pretty cool discussion, especially since it allowed us to talk about the US Men’s 4x100 relay team that US great Carl Lewis called a ‘clown show’. Seriously, how do you go on with being a track and field athlete when one of the GOATS said you were worse than an AAU squad and resembled a ‘clown show’?

Also added an outtake at the end. Great to be back and we’ll see you next week for Chapter 13. You can find us on all social platforms @wearebenched
