By: Jason Jackson Kirk Morrison Michael Haddix Jr
  • Summary

  • Jason & Kirk discuss WNBA star Breanna Stewart and her wife, retired basketball player Marta Casademont, going to the NYPD to report an anonymous sender threatening the couple by sending homophobic emails wishing death on them. This is one of many complaints from WNBA players about an increase in threats that contained racist & homophobic slurs. We wrap this week with a discussion on the NCAA approving the elimination of the national letter of intent program. Michael Haddix, Jr., CEO & Co-Founder of Scout joins the show. Mike discusses his work, which combines financial education, wealth management, and tax preparation, specifically designed for college athletes. Helping athletes began for Mike when he saw his father, former NFL running back Michael Haddix, Sr.'s career end before he wanted it to. Following an 8-year career, Mike Sr. didn't know how to manage his money properly. Following an awe-inspiring college basketball career, Michael worked as an investment banker for Goldman Sachs. He then moved to Octagon and managed money for many well-known athletes including, Chris Paul, Steph Curry & Michael Phelps, among many others. Scout currently works with 12 athletic departments including UCLA, Iowa & Auburn. The athletes receive financial training sessions on campus year-round learning how to design a budget, set up recurring bank deposits, make investments, and put money aside for tax purposes. Scout also provides services to teach family members of the athletes as well.
