We’ve all seen them come out of the woodwork — when a team wins the championship, suddenly everyone’s repping the jersey. It’s easy to jump on the bandwagon when things are going well, but few stick around through the tough seasons.

The same is true for faith—it’s easy when life is smooth, but true followers show up and stand firm when life gets tough. This week, we’ll explore whether we’re fully committed followers or maybe just Fair Weather Fans.

Have you ever walked into a church and instantly felt like you didn’t belong? Everyone around you knew exactly what to do—when to stand, when to sit, what to say, and even what to wear. Meanwhile, you're left trying to figure out what the unspoken rules are, feeling like you're the only one who missed the memo. Or maybe it was an encounter with one of those church people who made you feel like you’re the outsider in a game where the rules are already set. I’ve felt like that and it made me wonder — Is this really what faith is supposed to be like?

Maybe you grew up playing by the rules, and they feel like home. In fact, many of us have come to cherish—dare I say, venerate—the rules. They offer structure, certainty, and control. They tell us who’s in and who’s out. They measure our progress to help us feel like we’re doing it "right." For some, this sense of order becomes comforting, even necessary, and we start to believe that faith is about checking off the right boxes and keeping everything neat and tidy.

But what if God never meant for Christianity to be about following a bunch of rules? What if God wants to be so more to you than a divine disciplinarian? Join us this week at BCC as we learn that fans of the rules may not actually be followers of Jesus, and those really wondering what faith is supposed to be like may actually find an answer that satisfies.

  • Playing the Field (SERIES: In The Game)
    Apr 27 2025

In a world that often celebrates the freedom of casual connections and keeping options open, we sometimes overlook the cost of avoiding commitment. After all, when we’re “playing the field” it’s easy to keep things light and carefree. Real commitment requires vulnerability and responsibility, but without it, we miss out on the deeper, richer experiences that genuine connection offers. Relationships demand investment, trust, and the courage to fully engage. By choosing not to commit, we risk never experiencing the profound depth of connection we were designed for.

Many of us approach our relationship with God in much the same way—keeping Him at a distance, not fully committing to a walk of faith, or only giving part of ourselves. This hesitation to engage with God wholeheartedly not only stunts our spiritual growth, but it can also sabotage the very influence He wants to have in our lives. By failing to commit, we miss the transformative power of His presence.

Now that we’ve come through Easter, it’s time we sit down for a D.T.R. with God, learning to stop” playing the field” and fully commit to the relationship that matters most.

  • Coats & Branches (SERIES: On The Road)
    Apr 13 2025

For many of us, Palm Sunday is about children's parades, waving branches, and a last reminder to buy that ham before Easter. It's a joyful week, with young ones marching down the aisles, holding palm fronds high - everyone singing 'Hosanna' as we remember Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The church community comes together, marking the start of Holy Week with excitement and anticipation, looking ahead to the resurrection of Christ. But what if the Palm Sunday Paraders, both then and now, don’t really understand what was happening at all? What if the triumphal entry wasn't what it seemed?

Join us at BCC this Sunday as we explore Jesus’ ride into town, discovering what was truly unfolding that day and what it means for us now.

  • What Do You Want? (SERIES: On The Road)
    Apr 6 2025

    “What do you want?”

From the sharp, impatient tone of a stranger on the street to the polite inquiry of a waiter at a restaurant, we’re constantly confronted with this simple yet powerful question. But how we respond—whether with irritation, excitement, or indifference—depends on who’s asking, and more importantly, why they’re asking.

Now, imagine if the God of the universe were asking you, “What do you want?”

    How would you answer?

This week at BCC, you’re invited to consider your response to this question that Jesus asks while on the road to Jerusalem. Considering what you truly want can stir your soul and ignite your purpose. It’s about peeling back layers of superficial wants and connecting with what you truly need to live a life aligned with your God-given design. Together, let’s make sure we’re asking for the right thing, so when we get the answer, it’s one that truly fulfills.
