Episode 27 - The Breathing Room // San Francisco-based Band

“Sometimes I think about how lucky I am to be living in San Francisco and how with that fortune comes the added bonus of my creative friend group. For a city that’s supposedly got a “dying” art and music scene ( as defined by people who don’t actually live here ), I’m completely surrounded by a plethora of artists, all of which are just so kind, moral, wildly skilled, and beautifully unique people. My friends in The Breathing Room definitely hit all those marks – and then some. Each member of the band – Tori, Garrett, Sean, and Caleb – are such powerhouse musicians and just an overall solid humans. It’s been so fun watching their band grow, and I’m honored to have helped create some single art for them too. Having them on the pod has been a long time coming, and I’m stoked they finally came through to hang.

In this episode of BEDROOM™, The Breathing Room shares their band origin story, including the moment Tori Leonhardt – one of my favorite musical friends in the city – joined as their drummer. We talk about their shared love of basketball and their take on the current health of San Francisco’s music scene. We get into the nitty-gritty, and I get a little pushy grilling them on why mixing and mastering takes so long. We also dig into the role genre plays in the age of the algorithm. Later, BEDROOM™ alum Nico Peña ( of the band PEÑA ) drops in with a listener-submitted question. The band breaks down their new song “Blue” and how it came to be, shares some of their favorite shows they’ve played, and gives us a glimpse into what’s coming next for The Breathing Room.

Finally, we wrap things up with a round of BEDROOM BANTER™, where I rapid-fire some classic BEDROOM™ questions, and The Breathing Room gives the fans what they want. Big shout-out to The Breathing Room for coming on the pod. Welcome to the BEDROOM™, y’all. WORLDWIDE PEACE.” – PSG

  • EP.026 - Cheyne Ellett // Artist from Pomona ( LA )
    Jun 11 2025

    Episode 26 - Cheyne Ellett // Artist.

Cheyne Ellett, Ellett Cheyne – backwards or forwards, no matter how you say it, the man exudes talent and brings a straight up unique and original vision to his art. Cheyne has been holding it down in Pomona for years and is one of a handful of my Southern California visual artist homies. He’s got a great vibe and so does the art he makes. It’s colorful, energetic, fun, and bursting with life. I’m hella hyped on this dude – hyped on his art, hyped on his love of Blink-182 and he just embodies the kind of artist I admire: someone who works across different mediums and carries their voice clearly throughout each one. In a world full of copycats, Cheyne is truly one of one. Anyone who knows him or his work loves him for exactly that. Go Cheyne, go!

In this episode of BEDROOM™, Cheyne shares why he started making art in the first place and how he approaches his multi-faceted creative process – transitioning from mediums like painting and illustration to sculpture, murals, and installations. He talks about how he got into public art and mural making, and how that field has opened many doors to help fund his creative lifestyle and fuel his love of community. We talk about how physically draining the act of painting murals can be. We discuss burnout, and a recent installation he did called Overtime at Third Street Gallery. Cheyne reflects on how his colorful work is a direct response to the meek world we’ve inherited. He shares his dream skate company collab, and we wrap up by talking about his upcoming group show that he curated at The Language Mobilization Factory in Sierra Madre. It’s called All Together Now – a reminder that during dark times, we’ve got to celebrate the good things, like community and art gatherings. The show opens on June 14th and runs until July 5th.

Finally, we wrap things up with a round of BEDROOM BANTER™, where I rapid-fire some classic BEDROOM™ questions, and Cheyne gives the fans what they want. Big shout-out to Cheyne Ellett for coming on the pod. Welcome to the BEDROOM™, y’all. WORLDWIDE PEACE.” – PSG

  • EP.025 - Anthony Ferraro // Musician from Astronauts,etc. and Toro y Moi
    May 21 2025

    Episode 25 - Anthony Ferraro // Musician.

“His name is Anthony Ferraro – but a lot of people in the Bay call him Tony Peppers. He’s got a very successful musical act, band, moniker – whatever you want to call it – that goes by the name Astronauts Etc. But maybe you’re into the DJ or rave scene and you know him as Tony MF. Me? I’m just gonna call him the new homie.

You see, Anthony – aka Tony, aka the new homie – is someone I’ve seen around for years. Though “seen” might be a bit misleading here. Anthony plays in my absolute favorite Bay Area-based band: Toro y Moi. For years, I watched him perform, live from my computer screen, thanks to a Toro y Moi concert called Live at Trona that I obsessively had on repeat a couple years back. Fast-forward a few years from there, I started realizing some of my friends were mutuals with Anthony. Fast-forward a few more, and I finally met him – along with his amazingly talented filmmaker wife Samantha Sartor – at the 4 Star Theater during a Scorsese double-feature on a Sunday afternoon. We chopped it up, became internet friends and now, we’re IRL friends. And today, y’all get to witness our first long-form conversation. Let me tell you – it was a good one. He’s definitely the new homie.

Anthony is a wildly talented career musician. He’s traveled the world on tour, studied at UC Berkeley, lives in Vallejo, is about to open a bar, has great taste, and an even better voice. I’m stoked to share our little convo with you today.

In this episode of BEDROOM™, Anthony talks about getting into music at a young age in Orange County and how he eventually made his move to the Bay. He shares about his college years and the key moments that led to him becoming a full-time musician. He talks about joining Chaz Bear’s musical project Toro y Moi, and what it's been like to play and tour with them over the last 12 years. We also dive into his solo projects – most notably Astronauts Etc. – and his more instrumental work under his full name. Anthony answers some listener-submitted questions – one from fellow East Bay musician and BEDROOM™ alum Hannah Van Loon (Tanukichan), and another from legendary film editor Caleb Stumpfl. He talks about making his piano-based album Gestures and shares some exciting news about the next phase of that project. We also get into the work he’s done composing for filmmakers like Tyler McPherron, Mancy Gant, and 26 Aries, and what he loves about creating music for film. Then, we dive into one of my favorite topics when talking to musicians: record labels – and what role they play in the modern era. Hint: I’m not the biggest fan.

Finally, we wrap things up with a round of BEDROOM BANTER™, where I rapid-fire some classic BEDROOM™ questions, and Anthony gives the fans what they want. Big shout-out to Anthony Ferraro for coming on the pod. Welcome to the BEDROOM™, y’all. WORLDWIDE PEACE.” – PSG
