En el Antiguo Testamento, cuando un pecador traía un animal para el sacrificio para ofrecerlo a Dios, él tenía que creer que mientras que era él quién tenía que morir por sus pecados, en lugar de ello su ofrenda por el sacrificio aceptaba sus pecados en su lugar. Todos aquellos que están por tener esta fe deben creer con su corazón que Dios ha remitido todos sus pecados de acuerdo al sistema de sacrificios del Tabernáculo–esto es, pasando todos sus pecados sobre la ofrenda del sacrificio y extrayendo la sangre del animal.
