  • Episode 21: Arthur Carmichael
    Apr 6 2024

On Episode 21 of Carmichael Clan Radio, I’m joined by one of the founding members of Clan Carmichael USA, Arthur Carmichael.

Arthur (or “Art” as he’s known to most) is one of the most visible and respected members of Clan Carmichael USA. On the show, we talk about how he first became involved in Clan Carmichael when few in the United States had even heard of Clan Carmichael. We also learn about Arthur’s role in the creation of the Clan Carmichael Honor Guard and what its role has been to Chief Richard since its inception. Later we talk about how the Carmichael Gatherings in Scotland have changed over the years, and then hear what Arthur’s hopes are for Clan Carmichael USA as it moves into the future.

This was such an interesting interview, and a reminder of how many fascinating Clan Carmichael stories are still out there, waiting to be told.

  • Episode 20: Eilidh MacRae on Scotland's Haunted History and Frightening Folklore
    Oct 28 2023

It’s the spookiest season of the year, and today I’m joined by co-host of the Generally Spooky History Podcast, Eilidh MacRae, to talk about Scotland’s very spooky past. Eilidh and her husband Kieran are hosts of the Generally Spooky History Podcast where they deliver a different spooky Scottish tale each week.

In this episode, we discuss a few theories about why Scotland might have such a haunted history, then Eilidh treats us to several eerie stories of hauntings and spirits — even one that is local to South Lanarkshire, just up the road from the Carmichael Estate.

Other topics we dare to talk about are the frightening Nuckelavee, the horse-like demon of Orcadian folklore, and the location frequently called the “most haunted place in Scotland,” Mary King’s Close.

Thanks so much to Eilidh for joining Carmichael Clan Radio on this special Halloween episode. To hear more about Scotlands’ haunted history, check out the Generally Spooky History Podcast by following the links below.
