  • 118: CataractCoach Podcast 118: Alison Early MD
    Jun 29 2025
Most ophthalmologists do not stick with their first job for the entirety of their careers. And that is perfectly fine because we all need to find the right fit for ourselves, and that, too, can evolve over time. Our guest, Dr Alison Early, enjoyed working at her first job right out of residency and she flourished, racking up great surgical experience. But after a few years, she realized that the best option would be to become her own boss and start a boutique solo practice focused on cataract and refractive surgery. You can follow her path and see her progress via her popular instagram page https://www.instagram.com/dr.alisonearly/ and if you are thinking about doing this too, let me encourage you to do it!

    Jun 22 2025
For this podcast our guest is Dr Deborah Ristvedt who is an ophthalmic surgeon who practices in a small town, Alexandra, Minnesota, and transitioned her practice from a small solo family venture into part of a larger group under the Vance Thompson Vision umbrella. This has given her increased resources and has allowed her to grow the practice substantially. She is now able to focus on doing more surgery and spending less time doing other administrative duties. She explains how she has navigated the different phases of her career and her personal life. There are so many great learning points in this podcast, especially for our younger colleagues.

    Jun 15 2025
If you were at the last ASCRS meeting then you know that the winner of the high impact surgical tip award was Dr Priya Narang who taught us how to perform a pinhole pupilloplasty for cases of irregular corneal distortion. She is a brilliant ophthalmologist and a master of complex anterior segment surgeries. In this podcast we learn insight into innovating new surgical procedures. She has since evolved into performing a reverse 4-throw pupilloplasty so that the sutures are hidden under the iris.
