在早期教會時期，許多基督教徒都在流浪，尋找一個可以逃避羅馬當權者迫害的地方。即使在尼祿皇帝死亡之後羅馬帝國也繼續推行迫害政策，因爲基督徒繼續藐視新皇帝的權力。早期聖徒接受和承認羅馬皇帝的世俗權威，當要求放棄自己的信仰時他們拒不服從。因爲他們違抗了羅馬當權者的要求，早期教會的編年史寫滿了迫害和殉難。
我們當詢問一下啓示錄的道與今天的信徒是否有特殊的關係。畢竟它書寫在近兩千年以前，而不是現在，寫給亞細亞七個教會，而不是寫給我們的。怎麽可能與我們有關呢？
