  • I have never confessed this, not aloud at least. In fact, I took great pains to conceal these early years, to bottle them up in extravagant lies of travel to Greece and Russia and elsewhere abroad. But now you know that under my false name, I traveled with a company of good men to an island not without an eerie beauty where I had little expectation for any sort of inspiration or adventure. But in this as in many things, I found myself almost wholly wrong.
