S town

I enjoyed this mystery.
It began as a strange story but ended as a mystery solved!

Mildly intriguing

The narrator… absolutely flawless. I could listen to him speak for hours. Even to report on a narrowly interesting tale of mental illness in America. I found John very likeable and oohed and ahhhed from time to time, but really… the story didn’t go anywhere.

Beautifully tragic

Very good reminder as a matter how well you know someone and we don’t know them.

John B is fascinating and relatable

Being a southern native, born and raised, still living in northern Florida close to the Alabama line, John B is totally relatable and feels like home. Listening to him and the other Alabamians speak, is like sitting around a campfire reminiscing about friends and loved ones we too have lost. I listened to the final chapter a few times, processing John B’s final thoughts. Suicide hits close to home for me, as it does most. It feels like a hint of closure I never got for a few of my very good friends, who’s lives were also cut short. Thank you for this

Fantastic Reporting

The way the story evolved was surprising from where it began. John was a fascinating case study for sure.

Not sure what all the hype is about

I listened, mostly, because this happened an hour from where I reside. As if I needed a reminder of how horrible this place can be. The story’s alright but I guess it just wasn’t for me.

Spare Yourself…

…I took the bullet for you. I have never left a review before, but felt it necessary after wasting audio time on a road trip when I could’ve listened to road noise instead. This entire series is extremely (I mean XXXtremely) vulgar and pointless. I kept waiting for something interesting, poignant, or entertaining to happen… I was left with nothing but a new vulgar vocabulary. It’s the story of a very smart man who made very dumb choices. He thought he was better than everyone else and wanted the ear of a reporter to air his complaints. Why the reporter thought this would make a good story, I will never understand. Spare yourself the misery and skip this overrated series.
