About this listen
In an explosive Audible Original investigative series, executive produced by James Patterson, veteran journalist and New York Times best-selling author Vicky Ward chronicles her 19-year quest to uncover what - or who - is behind Jeffrey Epstein’s wealth, influence, and criminality. You’ll hear testimonies from over 20 individuals with ties to Epstein, as well as previously off-the-record transcripts and exclusive conversations with Epstein himself.
Ward’s journey began in 2002 when she profiled Epstein for Vanity Fair. At the time, she didn’t realize just how close she came to uncovering the financier’s web of secrets, connections, and wealth that enabled his sexual crimes and shielded him from justice for decades. As she investigated further, Ward would unearth ties to a criminal empire of money-laundering, gun-running, and international espionage.
Amidst all the bold-faced names, the saga repeatedly intertwines with that of a single enigmatic figure: Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s ex-lover, former employee, and alleged co-conspirator. The disgraced heiress, who now awaits trial herself, may hold the key to unlocking the truth behind Epstein.

It’s appalling that the things that are revealed in this podcast have been kept secret. I know this is just the tip of the iceberg and I’m looking forward to finding out all the rest!

Fascinating look into the Epstein/Maxwell story

I also don’t get the sense that she fought Vanity Fair tooth and nail to ensure her original story on JE to included anything about the Farmer sisters. He threatened to sue her personally and she seemed to concede to that. I understand her hesitation but she doesn’t mention seeing a lawyer in order to protect her journalistic integrity. Others would have pushed back more.

Asking the audience to commiserate with her over being overwhelmed during her reporting was too much. Who cares that she had a difficult pregnancy? Who cares that Epstein went over her head? Who cares that she was threatened with personal liability? Writing for a living doesn't (or at least shouldn't) give one a license to spread rumors and unsubstantiated allegations. She had a poorly supported allegation from two credible women, but to expect her employer to go out on a limb for her, especially against a man clearly willing to sue (bravado in hindsight), was ludicrous.
In the end, the moaning regarding the host having to work while pregnant took away from the underlying story of an emotional cripple of a woman who allowed herself to be abused by a world-class jerk.
