  • André Carlisle
    Mar 4 2021

Soccer journalist André Carlisle joins Craig Hoffman for a frank discussion on race in America on the heels of the US Women's National Team's decision to no longer kneel in protest during the national anthem. The podcast conversation follows a radio interview last week that left Craig with more to be desired. The guys talk about why the radio conversation had to be the way it was compared to the framing with more room to talk and a different audience on a podcast.

They then dive into race and racism itself. André combines his journalism and personal anecdotes as a black man in America what he sees are the questions that need to be answered and, just as importantly, who needs to be answering them.

He also unwraps why self-interrogation is so important to the discussion, which is talked about in the context of the national team. Craig and André also discuss the role sports can play to push progress and specifically where the USWNT can go from here.

  • Alysha Clark + Stop the Anthem + WFT Cheer
    Feb 16 2021

In this compilation episode, Craig Hoffman takes the best of his President's Day radio show for your listening pleasure!

First, Hoffman talks about why it's time to end the national anthem at sporting events. The Dallas Mavericks didn't play it for the first 13 games of their season. The NBA responded by mandating its playing for all future games by all teams. Craig explains why this is a mistake and gives perspective of the pressure it puts on athletes to take a public stand they never asked to make.

Then, Hoffman discusses a story that's made headlines from the perspective of the people at the center of it. The Washington Football Cheerleading program has been put on pause, but it seems no one asked the cheerleaders what they thought. Craig explains why this is just another example of the patriarchy run amok.

Finally, Craig talks to new Washington Mystics guard Alysha Clark. The two go back a decade to their days at MTSU where Clark lead the nation in scoring and back-to-back Sun Belt titles. They talk about her journey to the WNBA and how her game has evolved from a college scoring machine to a 2x WNBA Champion, all-defensive team guard.
