Lover of movies and aspiring filmmaker Taniela Tora takes us through his cinematic memories and shares his favourite films.

Actually a throwback to when the idea for this podcast was still forming in my mind, but I thought I would wait a while to release it as we go to territory some might find difficult, especially in terms of sexuality.

That said this is still a relaxed chat about film, memory and identity, with no blue language.

We learn early that Fernando went to university in Spain to study being a Private Detective and that really sets the scene for a pretty forensic exploration of cinema.

We cover Ernst Lubitsch 1930s Great War drama Broken Lullaby and David Lynch's masterpiece of Hollywood introspection Mulholland Drive, with nods and winks to documentaries from Ross McElwee, the Nouvelle Vague masters Claude Chabrol and Jean Luc Godard, and the Coen Brothers' cult comedy The Big Lebowski along the way.

We start, however, with a bang, in 1990 with a very young boy exploring the cinema itself while Days of Thunder plays in the background.

Author Tejaswini Apte Rahm talks to me about the history of cinema in India and walks me through her early childhood memories in Bombay (now Mumbai).

We realise our earliest movie memories were identifications with an elephant and an alien, both of which left us traumatised.

I learn about the difference between Bollywood and Hindi films, and how pot boilers and masala movies give you your money's worth.

We also manage to discuss the importance of stories to an understanding of the world and the construction of a moral code, and grapple with Time's Arrow and the Theory of Relativity.

Pretty good for 90 minutes...

Dan Brown takes a mildly pessimistic walk through his movie memories, washed down with a little whiskey, and we talk expressions of existential dread via zombie films, biopics and science fiction.

Along the way we stop to consider the difference between Russian and Western art, realism and idealism, dystopia and satire, and explore the age old Brits versus the Americans debate between refills.

A little more shambling, with a few more giggles, than usual, but quite endearing for it I think.
