  • Mosquitoes by William Faulkner ~ Full Audiobook
    Jun 12 2025
Mosquitoes by William Faulkner audiobook. Step aboard William Faulkner’s riotous debut, Mosquitoes, and let its luscious rhythms and razor-sharp wit carry you away on an unforgettable auditory voyage. In this early masterpiece, a motley crew of artists, writers and playboys gather for a steamy Gulf of Mexico cruise, sparking hilarious rivalries and intoxicating flirtations beneath their brimmed hats while Faulkner’s language dances with sly irony and vivid, sun-drenched imagery. The audiobook’s dynamic narration amplifies every jab of dialogue and swirl of sea breeze, capturing the characters’ mounting frustrations— between the insecure poet Gordon, the worldly Cleveland Mary and her mischievous niece Mary-Love—like a perfectly timed performance piece. You’ll find yourself chuckling at their pretentious posturing, transfixed by Faulkner’s early experimentation with voice and point of view, and carried along by the narrator’s seamless shifts between playful banter and moments of surprising tenderness. If you crave a richly textured escape where the salt spray tangles with high-society farce, Mosquitoes in audio form delivers Faulkner’s youthful audacity straight to your ears, leaving you eager for every twist, every stinging barb—and every breathtaking glimpse of the author who would become one of America’s greatest literary voices. • Sour Grapes by William Carlos Williams ~ Full Audiobook
    Jun 11 2025
Sour Grapes by William Carlos Williams audiobook. Imagine stepping into a cozy parlor on a warm summer evening, your senses sharpened by the gentle crackle of a radio drama as tension piles up in the simplest of settings: a husband anxiously dialing home to check on his wife’s whereabouts, a friend’s low-key taunts that quietly ratchet suspense, and an unexpected twist that lands with a deliciously ironic snap—this is the world William Carlos Williams unfolds in “Sour Grapes,” and in audiobook form it feels more alive than ever. Williams’s prose, crisp and deceptively plain, pulses with the rhythm of real conversation, and a skilled narrator can coax every nuance—every flicker of jealousy, every sly smile—from the page into your ear, transforming the story into an intimate performance. You’ll hear the slight catch in the husband’s voice as he wrestles with doubt, the casual laughter of his friend as he toys with mischief, and that final, sharp revelation that delivers a satisfying punch far more striking than any melodramatic climax. Short, sharp, and infused with the author’s gift for turning the ordinary into the edge of a knife, “Sour Grapes” is a perfect audiobook treat for anyone who savors clever storytelling that lingers long after the last line is read. Let yourself be guided by a voice that captures every detail, from the soft hum of domestic routine to the prickly sting of human folly—this is Williams’s artistry at its most vivid, and it’s waiting for you to press play. • Smoky The Cowhorse by Will James ~ Full Audiobook
    Jun 10 2025
Smoky The Cowhorse by Will James audiobook. Imagine settling in as the sun dips low and being swept away into the vast, untamed West through the rich, evocative narration of Smoky The Cowhorse, where every hoofbeat thunders with freedom, every whispered breeze across sagebrush carries a story, and the bond between a gentle stallion and the brave young cowboy who calls him friend stirs your soul in ways you never imagined. From the moment Smoky is born wild on the Montana range, you’ll feel the wind in his mane and taste the thrill of open prairie; when he’s stolen, broken, and forced into a life of hardship, your heart will echo his pain, only to swell with triumph as he reclaims his spirit under the compassionate guidance of Clint, a ranch kid whose quiet courage and unwavering loyalty mirror Smoky’s own pride and resilience. The audiobook’s masterful voice actor breathes life into every character—from grizzled cowhands sharing campfire tales to the silent majesty of Smoky himself—while the crack of the lariats, the low murmur of cattle drives, and the haunting call of hawks overhead envelop you in an auditory panorama so vivid, you’ll swear you feel dust on your boots and hear the cattle lowing at dawn. This is more than a tale of horse and man—it’s an ode to perseverance, the healing power of friendship, and the wild heart that refuses to be tamed. Press play and let Smoky’s journey carry you across windswept mesas and star-studded skies; by the final chapter, you’ll emerge renewed, forever changed by the echo of those hoofbeats in your mind. I've now listened to several of these 800+ (and growing) episodes/books, and sampled many more. They are read well, for the most part, and cover a broad range of topics, authors and time periods. There are both fiction and non-fiction, children's, YA and adult titles. I assume all are in the public domain, whether by lapsed or expired copyright. A number of the series' titles are otherwise unavailable for free through Audible, but the edition for sale on Audible will likely be a better reading or translation. I haven't checked, but some of the more obsure titles are likely not available at all. Some have attributions to Librivox, but a variety of sources seem to be drawn from. The biggest drawback, due to the podcast/episode structure of the collection, is that you can't search by title or author, only by upload date. You must load page after page until you find (or don't find) a title or author you're hoping is in the collection. But what do you want for FREE? There are both diamonds and lumps of coal in this mine. You just have to keep digging until you find your diamonds.
