  • e6: Undersized to DI, Mental Strategies ft. @findingbelief
    Apr 10 2024

Billy Mote had a passion to play DI baseball...and made it happen.

Billy played at Baylor University, and spent another DI program at Creighton University, a JUCO, and finished at an NAIA...so Billy has as much experience as anyone to share his experience at nearly every level of collegiate baseball.

But like me and many other players, he was undersized at 5'7", 110 lbs in high school. In this episode, he explains his process and mentality that allowed him to become a Big 12 baseball player.

Billy shares the power of goal-setting, a mentor, and visualization - and his whole social presence is dedicated to the mental aspects that can transform an athlete's game and open opportunities.

Check him out @findingbelief on social and listen to his Focus Forge Podcast if you're a high school and older athlete looking to improve the most impactful aspect of your game - the mental.

  • E4: 95 MPH, 60.00 ERA, TOS, & Faith ft. @60eraguy
    Dec 4 2023

EVERY ATHLETE needs to give this a listen. As a 5'2" 16-year-old throwing 80, Joey Laurer didn't pitch a single Varsity inning and still committed D1, where he currently pitches today.

Still undersized as a pitcher, Joey worked his way with the mentorship of his dad and uncle to 95 MPH and dominance on the mound...at times. However, after more than a decade of swimming and throwing, Joey was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome before his first college season. "I couldn't feel the ball in my hands".

This led Joey to a lack of control and ultimately a 60.00 ERA his sophomore season - hence his social handle @60eraguy. But if you watch Joey's content, he has a unrelenting work ethic, mindset and commitment to his craft to overcome this unforeseen obstacle - grounded by his faith.

As someone who also has Jesus in the center of my life, I am glad Joey shares the role his faith plays in his life because for players that consider themselves religious, leaning into belief and prayer can really be such a beneficial way to combat worry and anxiety - feelings that come from a place other than God as Joey describes.

I am sure if you give a listen, you will take away value that can help you on your journey. If so, please leave a 5-star review as it will help me continue to get great guests like Joey.

Make sure you follow him, particularly if you're a pitcher, on all platforms - @60eraguy.

  • E2: Wisconsin to DIII to Pro Ball ft. @d.r.hitting
    Oct 20 2023

Drew Richard (@d.r.hitting), one of my best baseball buddies, joins to talk about his story playing HS ball at a school with a 50-person graduating class, onto DIII, and how he made it to hit homeruns in the pros.

Drew and I were coaches together at Not Your Average Baseball Camp (NYABC), and we meshed immediately. We are both goofs that love baseball, and have immense passion for teaching what we know to others. Our emphasis on fundamentals and communication are key topics for players and coaches to understand.

He was also a powerlifter and speaks to athletes who are in the recruiting process and how physique can help your recruitability.
