    Apr 5 2024

Today on Consequence of Sound, we are sharing an episode from In Defense of Ska.

P-Nut, the bass player for 311, joins hosts Adam Carnes and Adam Davis to talk about how 311’s journey overlapped with the rise of ska in the 90s, and how the group existed in a space adjacent to the music.

The group is influenced by ska and reggae, amongst other genres of music. So, P-Nut follows take listeners down this rabbit hole and talks about playing Bob Marley at early 311 rehearsals, playing shows with Fishbone, Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Urge, Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger and No Doubt. And even headlining the ska festival Back To The Beach in 2018. We even dive headfirst into a discussion about 311’s most ska track, “I’ll Be Hear Awhile.” And, P-Nut tells us all about how much he loves 100 gecs.

  • The Aces' Cristal Ramirez's Spark Is Paramore's Riot!
    Mar 29 2024

Today on Consequence of Sound, we are sharing an episode from The Spark Parade.

The Aces' front woman Cristal Ramirez was obsessed with Paramore's Riot! from the moment it was first played for her. The energy and lyrics both blew her pre-teen mind, but it was Hayley Williams who really caught her attention. A flame-haired teenager who lead a successful rock band in a male-dominated industry, Williams provided endless inspiration for Ramirez as her own musical aspirations took flight. As a dedicated Paramore fan, she's always seen the band as a beacon of light and a force for good in the world.

Today on Consequence of Sound, we are sharing an episode fromThe Story Behind The Song.

One of the most renowned American indie rock bands, The Shins have carved a lasting legacy with their distinctive blend of folk, pop, and indie rock. Formed in 1996 by frontman James Mercer, a chance inclusion of “New Slang” in the indie movie classic Garden State helped to take their indie buzz mainstream just as their breakout sophomore album, Chutes Too Narrow, propelled them to indie stardom.

On this episode of The Story Behind the Song, Peter Csathy speaks with The Shins’ James Mercer just after the passing of former The Shins’ bassist Neal Langford to discuss how Neal helped push him to perform, the conception of “New Slang” and also the more recent “Phantom Limb.”
