  • Five Heart: NEBRASKA/RUTGERS PREVIEW & WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON WITH SPECIAL TEAMS ANYWAY?
    Oct 4 2024

After a huge win at Purdue last week 28-10, Nebraska comes home to play their last game before their BYE WEEK against Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Homecoming probably conjures memories of a chilly fall breeze through the trees with freshly fallen leaves and the smell of football wafting through the air. Mother Nature must not have received the memo of the Huskers playing their Homecoming Game this Saturday because the temps are supposed to be in the 90’s.

Besides the unseasonable temps, another unexpected but exhilarating occurrence is that we have a 4-1 season. However, with Rutgers 4-0 there is little time to celebrate.

The Purdue game showed us a Husker team that we can stay focused and keep grinding since all the points were scored in the latter part of the game. We also learned we have some dudes that can BALL; Ceyair Wright, Alex Bullock, John Bullock, Brian Buschini, Jacorey Barney, Barret Leibentritt these guys.

Tonight we will discuss the keys to winning on Saturday. Of course, there will be Long Snapper talk (as there usually is anyway) as well as missed FG’s and the mysterious calls from the black and white team-I mean Ref’s.

As always, we hope you will grab your favorite beverage and join us for what’s sure to be a lively exchange on Thursday Nights Five Heart Podcast.

GO BIG RED! See you soon!

  • Nebraska Beats Purdue, But Can They Defeat An Undefeated Rutgers?
    Oct 1 2024

Nebraska defeated Purdue 28-10 Saturday, and boy howdy, is there a lot of complaining about a team that is 4-1 so far on the season. So much negativity.

Granted, it was an ass ugly first half of football, but in the end Nebraska ended up soundly beating Purdue. The Blackshirt defense held them to only 50 yards rushing, 174 yards passing, and 10 points. That’s a pretty decent outing.

We will review Purdue, taking your questions and comments, BUT more importantly,

Rutgers guy Greg Patuto from our Rutgers site On The Banks will join us to talk about the Scarlet Knights. They’re 4-0, having just defeated Washington in their Big Ten opener.

It was a weird game. Washington ran for 207 yards, passed for 314, far surpassing Rutgers’ offense, but still lost the game. How and why does that happen?

We’ll have many questions for the Rutgers guy, and you’d better bring some yourself.

  • Corn Nation Overreaction: Big Second Half Lifts Nebraska Football Over Purdue
    Sep 30 2024

This week on Corn Nation’s Overreaction Show, Greg and Hoss are joined by Every Game Jake (formerly Big Game Jake) to discuss the first Big Ten Conference win of the season, a 28-10 win at Purdue.

Bolstered by a 21-point fourth quarter that included a John Bullock pick-six, the Huskers turned a 0-0 halftime score into a one-sided contest. But make no mistake about it, there is work to be done and improvements to make.

Greg, Hoss, and Jake will break down the game, from the abysmal first half to the redemptive second half. Penalties didn’t cost Nebraska the game this week, but that first half was rife with them, and that needs to be addressed.
