Day 298 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. This portion of Jeremiah continues God's declaration against Babylon. The Lord, the Creator of all, will bring punishment to this mighty empire. Babylon's waters (representing its strength) will dry up, and it will become a desolate, uninhabitable wasteland. The people of Israel and Judah, whom Babylon once took captive, will return to their land, while Babylon will face its downfall for its arrogance and cruelty. The chapter ends with a symbolic act: Jeremiah instructs Seraiah to read this prophecy when he reaches Babylon and then throw the scroll into the Euphrates River, symbolizing the sinking and utter destruction of the city. In 2 Timothy 4, Paul tells Timothy to always be ready to talk about his beliefs, no matter what. He says a time will come when people will only listen to what they want to hear. Paul tells Timothy to stay strong, face tough times, and do his job well. Thinking about his own life, Paul feels he's near the end and believes he's done his best. Even though some friends left him, he's comforted knowing God's always there. Paul wraps up by saying hello to some pals and really hopes Timothy can visit him soon.
