HouseParenting (Part 1)Jon FredricksToday's Scripture: Genesis 1:27-28 NIV__________ Genesis 1:27-28 NIV27 So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Ephesians 2:10 NIV10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Mark 1:17 NIV17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 2 Timothy 2:2 NIV2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 1) WALKDeuteronomy 6:4-9 NIV4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Micah 6:8 NIVHe hath shown thee, O man, what is good: and what doth the Lord require of thee but to do justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? 2 Chronicles 16:9 NIV9 For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.” 1 Corinthians 13:8 NIVLove never fails. Jeremiah 17:7-9 NIV7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.8 They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” 2) WATCHPsalm 139:13 NIVFor you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Romans 12:4 NIVFor just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, Proverbs 20:5 NIVThe purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out. Proverbs 22:6 ERVTeach children in a way that fits their needs, and even when they are old, they will not leave the right path. 3) WRESTLE2 Chronicles 7:14 NIVif my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Proverbs 15:29 NIVThe Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous. James 5:16b NIV… The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 4) WAITPsalm 86:15 NIVBut you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. 2 Peter 3:9 NIVThe Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. James 5:7 NIVBe patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. Romans 8:25 NIVBut if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. 1 Corinthians 4:5 NIVTherefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God. Romans 8:25 NIVBut if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

    Healing the Wound (Part 2)

    Jon Fredricks

    Today's Scripture: Genesis 32:22-30 NIV

    __________

    Genesis 32:6 NIV

When the messengers returned to Jacob, they said, “We went to your brother Esau, and now he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”

    Colossians 3:13 NIV

13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

    Matthew 6:14-15 NIV

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

    Genesis 32:1 NIV

Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

    Genesis 32:22-30 NIV

22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. 24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”

But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

27 The man asked him, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered.

28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”

29 Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.” But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there.

30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”

    1) FIND A SAFE PLACE TO WRESTLE WITH GOD

    Matthew 6:6 NIV

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

    2) PRAY ... HARD

    Genesis 32:9 NIV

Then Jacob prayed, “O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, Lord, you who said to me, ‘Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,’

    Luke 5:16 NIV

But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

    Colossians 4:2 NIV

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

    1 Thessalonians 5:17 NIV

    pray continually,

    3) GET HELP

    Genesis 32:3 NIV

Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

    Proverbs 11:14 ESV

Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.

    4) CHOOSE GENEROSITY

    Genesis 33:10 NIV

“No, please!” said Jacob. “If I have found favor in your eyes, accept this gift from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favorably.

    Romans 12:18 NIV

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

    5) MOVE FORWARD

    Genesis 33:16-17 NIV

16 So that day Esau started on his way back to Seir. 17 Jacob, however, went to Sukkoth, where he built a place for himself and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place is called Sukkoth.

    John 8:36 NIV

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

    Galatians 5:1 NIV

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

HouseHealing The Wound (Part 1)Jon FredricksToday's Scripture: Matthew 18:21-35 NIV__________ Matthew 18:21-35 NIV21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” Matthew 4:1-10 NIVThen Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:“‘He will command his angels concerning you,and they will lift you up in their hands,so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” Matthew 18:21-22 NIV 1) WE FORGIVE BECAUSE WE HAVE TASTED ITMatthew 18:26-27 NIV Luke 23:34 ESVAnd Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments. Luke 7:47 NIVTherefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” 2) WE FORGIVE BECAUSE WE HAVE A CALLINGMatthew 18:33 NIV Colossians 3:13 NIV13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 2 Corinthians 2:7 NIVNow instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 3) WE FORGIVE BECAUSE WE HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITYMatthew 18:35 NIV Matthew 6:14-15 NIV14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. 4) WE FORGIVE BECAUSE WE POSSESS THE ABILITYMatthew 16:19 NIV
