  • Bonus Episode 39: Wear My Face! (The Romance of Crime)
    Nov 10 2024

We’re at the end of Season 17, and could we really get there without a Big Finish bonus episode!? This time around, we’re talking about The Romance of Crime, which was adapted from a Virgin New Adventures novel by RTD/Moffatt-era writer (and now cancelled) Gareth Roberts, and adapted by Big Finish legend John Dorney!

Join us as we discuss horrendous squish sounds, the conversion of the novel to audio and the absurd amount exposition and large cast that it comes with, the attempts at Noir, the pastiche of the Kray Twins, how all four of us missed elements of the plot actually happening (seriously, when did Romana get possessed!?), the comedy gold of the Ogrons, the inherent racism in calling everyone “normals,” and whether Gareth Roberts truly understands the “vibe” of Season 17. Amusingly, Reilly feels the need to check if he is likely to meet one of the stars before criticizing them…

If you would like to listen along with us, this story is available directly from Big Finish (BigFinish.com: https://bit.ly/3Z0eODF)

  • Episode 133: Would Somebody Think of the Children!? (Season 17 Retrospective)
    Nov 3 2024

Another season in the can, bringing the 1970s era of the show to a close. Of course, that means that it’s time for our customary season retrospective, where we’ll look back at the entirety of Season 17 with our usual blend of end-of-season awards, a look back at our scores and metric counts, and answer a few questions from our friends on our social media platforms. These are always a lot of fun to do, so don’t miss out!

Join us as we discuss whether the glee club in Shada was necessary or not, buyer’s remorse over how we rated Season 15, what sort of alcohol this season would be, and whether we’ve finally warmed up to Romana II. We also award our very first-ever Dudley Simpson Award for Outstanding Achievement, thus opening up the Watchers in the Fourth Dimension Hall of Fame! Finally, Anthony asks Julie the all-important question as to whether she is, in fact, weakling scum…

If you would like to watch along with us, you can find the entire season available for streaming on Britbox in the USA (http://www.britbox.com) and BBC iPlayer in the UK (https://bbc.in/48GSaCB). If you’re a little old fashioned and prefer physical media (like our very own Anthony), you can find the entirety of Season 17 on Blu Ray from Amazon US (https://amzn.to/4cnZioD) and Amazon UK (https://amzn.to/3yvWfg9)

  • Bonus Episode 38: He Also Double Tapped It (The Vampire Lovers and Dr. Terror's House of Horrors)
    Oct 27 2024

Welcome, once again, to our annual house of horror! As usual, we discuss two horror movies featuring the stars of television’s Doctor Who. This year, we kick off proceedings with Hammer Films’ The Vampire Lovers (featuring Ingrid Pitt, Peter Cushing, and Kate O’Mara), before moving on to Amicus Production’s first anthology film, Dr Terror’s House of Horrors (featuring Peter Cushing, Roy Castle, and Michael Gough). This year, our good friend Diana Birney joins us for the ride!

Join us as we discuss classist lesbianism (dammit, Carmilla/Marcilla!), gratuitous nudity, the best place for biting to draw blood, the heartlessness of killing a dog in one of the movies, killer kudzu, why Biff had to die (and why his couch is a sign of that coming), the joy of Christopher Lee facing off against Michael Gough, and the British love of trains. Anthony also talks about one of his childhood nightmares.
