  • 238 - Cool Hand Luke
    Sep 30 2024

The Dudes are "recording a podcast here boss" with 1967's Cool Hand Luke. As a progenitor of the American New Wave, this film brought new ideas and techniques to the world of filmmaking, and pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable on the silver screen. Like eating 50 eggs. Sounds like a nice round number.

    Other movies discussed:

Humanoids from the Deep (1980) - Directed by Barbara Peeters and Jimmy T. Murakami

The Good Earth (1937) - Stuart Rosenberg

    QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

Are there specific sequences in movies that literally make you ill?

  • 237 - Ed Wood
    Sep 23 2024

The Dudes aren't angora salesmen, they're in pictures, with 1994's Ed Wood, Tim Burton's deeply personal biopic about the infamous Grade Z filmmaker and his relationship and collaboration with Bela Lugosi. It's hilarious, shot in stunning Black and White, and stands as an essential document of Hollywood History. And remember...future events such as these will affect you...in the future...

    Other movies discussed:

Brief Encounter (1945) - Directed by David Lean

Serial Mom (1994) - Directed by John Waters

    QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

What are your favorite modern Black and White films?

  • 236 - Hannibal
    Sep 16 2024

The Dudes experience fine dining in 2001's Hannibal. This highly anticipated sequel to "The Silence of the Lambs" could never live up to expectations, but that doesn't mean it lacks interesting ideas or quality craftsmanship. It just lacks about everything else. Still, the set pieces are absolutely wild, and Gary Oldman's performance as Mason Verger is something you'll never forget. If he had a moustache, he'd be twirling it between his nasty little fingers. Also, Hannibal can probably teleport.

    Other movies discussed:

Tammy and the T-Rex (1994) - Directed by Stewart Raffill

The Bells of St. Mary's (1945) - Directed by Leo McCarey

    QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

What are your favorite examples of a well-known character played by a different actor in a sequel?
