About this listen
From the invention of the Gutenberg press in the 15th century to mechanised looms in the 18th century, changes to labour markets, engendered by new technologies, are often accompanied by moral panic. These historical concerns are mirrored now: emerging AI and automation will have a wide-ranging impact on the place of work. At a time when we have inflation and a cost of living crisis, economic uncertainty impacting labour markets, coupled with the need for green jobs and industry, where does our future lie? Which are the economic narratives that we are listening to and which are we not?
Aaron Bastani, Mark Maslin, Julie Freeman. Chaired by John Newbigin
