Porfirio Díaz nació el 15 de septiembre de 1830 en Oaxaca, México. De origen humilde, su padre murió cuando él era joven, y su madre se esforzó para criarlo a él y a sus siete hermanos. Díaz estudió en el seminario, pero abandonó su formación religiosa para unirse al ejército y luchar en la Guerra de Reforma y contra la intervención francesa.
