About this listen
January 15th, 1947, Betty Bersinger decided to take a walk with her 3-year-old daughter around 10am. During their walk Betty noticed what she thought was a mannequin in a vacant lot. Upon closer inspection she realized it was a body. Frightened at the gruesome sight she fled to the closest house to phone police. That is when police find Elizabeth Short's body in a vacant lot in the Leimert Park neighborhood, 6 days after she went missing. What they saw would haunt them and her story would become an infamous part of American history.
