  • Summary

  • [Contains explicit content] The Dark Web's first success story was a drugs 'eBay.' Vendors sold narcotics and pharmaceuticals directly to each other freely and anonymously. Then the FBI shut it down and unmasked its owner, Ross Ulbricht. The sting operation was ridiculous.

Geoff White, Channel 4 News's former Technology Reporter, speaks with a key player at the heart of the takedown. His story is astonishing.

Gooff

I loved this audiobook but I was a bit disappointed that my favorite narrator only read the epilogue

eBay on the Dark Web

This story was very interesting, talking about how one site on the Dark Web basically became the eBay of drugs either pharmaceutical or narcotics. Listening to it you can see just how things evolved over time.

it seems slightly fabricated

some parts were a bit of a stretch, but it's a good story. I don't like how the narrator pronounces his r's.

Shame on you

I like how no where in the Silk Road story was there any "Black" people involved. But when tasked to find a voice actor to simulate the conversation between the drug dealer and the journalist. Some how they settled on a black man. Its this subtle kind of racist programming that is insidious and seeps into every facet of life. Caucasians are the biggest purveyors of vice world wide but some how black and brown people are made out to be the poster children of illicit behavior and vice.

Very Biased

Author is very biased towards Ross Ulbricht, only interviewing people who look at Ross Ulbricht as an innocent man. Judging by this episode, the author believes Ross is innocent. I recommend "American Kingpin by Nick Bilton" to get a better understanding about the Silk Road and Ross Ulbricht, and everything that happened with him and the site. In my eyes he is not an innocent man that only built a site like Amazon.
