  • FOSTERING HEALTHY AND POSITIVE BODY IMAGES IN YOUR HOME What is body image?Simply put it is the way we think and feel about our bodies. Negative vs. Positive body image: Negative – being dissatisfied or thinking negatively about our bodies, either in appearance or function. Positive – being satisfied, holding respect and appreciation for our body. Accepting and celebrating the wonders that it does for you on a daily basis. Have open and honest conversations and don’t shy away from the hard ones. b. Don’t talk about your daughter’s body in terms of weight or appearance. i. Only talk about being healthy and teaching what that means. c. Understand you have an important voice in their life. Use it wisely. 2. Work on how you talk to yourself and your own body image issues: a. Be aware of how you talk to yourself or about your body, especially in front of your girls. b. Be kind to yourself. c. Model what it looks like to have a positive and healthy relationship with your body – “What we model for our kids will speak volumes louder than what we say.” i. IF YOU NEED HELP – GET IT!
