  • Summary

  • The Alaska Ranger fishing trawler, jokingly referred to by the crew as the “Danger Ranger,” steams off toward a school of mackerel in the Bering Sea. Kenny Smith and 46 others are onboard the beat up, rusty boat, hoping to make up for a disappointing winter fishing season. But the trawler lives up to its nickname when an engineer discovers out-of-control flooding below deck.

I felt like I was there

The story alone is captivating, but the production of this podcast truly made me feel like I was “in it” with them.

Couldn't stop listening

Really interesting, well done. Please make a "Bering" podcast that tells more of these types of stories.

Wonderfully Written and Told Story

This story is told in a way that keeps you interested and not wanting to stop listening until the end of the story. It includes interviews with both the Coast Guard Rescuers and the survivors which includes a level of realism into the story while also making it more compelling to listen until the very end. I was then pleasantly surprised by the ending which did not end as expected but in a more thought provoking way leaving me wanting to hear other stories by this reporter.

Incredible story about the Human Spirit

The men on the fishing boat, the rescuers, the selflessness…..

This is a story about survival, courage in the face of unthinkable fear, and hanging on to a thread of hope in an impossible situation. It’s also a cautionary tale about preparedness, responsible leadership and the value of human life!

HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

NOTE: I didn’t find the background sounds or music very entertaining, as it was distracting and took away from the gravity of the story, in my opinion. Like my somber feelings about the story were being interrupted.

Extraordinary program

This is the very best example of a podcast series I have ever listened to. The production, music, reporting, narration, writing, and story are top notch. It is such a compelling telling of an amazing story. Told from the perspective of those who were there it places the listener right in the middle of the action. “Fairy tales start with once upon a time. Fisherman’s tales start with ‘this is what the f&(k happened” is exactly what this is. Congratulations on a superb product.

Wow

What a story that’s behind the headlines.

Definitely worth listening to; a huge part of this true sea tale is learning about the inner-working’s and training the sea rescue teams go through.

Great job. We’re very proud of the job you do. Thank you!
