The calm of a suburban street in Youngstown, Ohio, was shattered when a sudden explosion ripped through a home, leaving witnesses stunned as they watched their neighbors’ house consumed by flames. The fire claimed the lives of the homeowners, Bill and Judy Schmidt, and as police delved into the case, they uncovered a shocking truth: this was no accident, but a calculated act of arson. At the heart of this twisted crime was an unlikely person—a ten-year-old girl named Corrine Gump.

Best podcast EVER. Mike says what a lot of us think when we hear these tragic cases. His commentary is fantastic.

Never apologetic

Yes. You give trigger warnings. Got it. And yes, if we choose to listen to true crime podcasts we should not be surprised by this type of content. And I never am and don’t actually require trigger warnings but you sure have an attitude about giving them. You do you though. It is indeed your podcast and I have the choice to not listen. I enjoy your podcast 99% of the time. BUT, your sarcasm and smart ass commentary on the topic of SA and especially child SA is so distasteful it’s genuinely disgusting. “the nine year old claimed the perpetrator did XYZ and of course even though there was no evidence to back her accusations, prosecutors believed her. They actually usually do. And it’s a rare instance where women aren’t believed - but you know, tell yourselves whatever you want.” The tone of your voice in this section says way more than your words. And this happened to her from age FIVE to NINE anyway. Not a woman, need I remind you? “I tend to believe a rape victim, you should too etc ….” None of that last part takes back your words and tone in the way you talk about SA of a child. I just don’t understand how you concur that it’s one of the worst crimes someone can commit while in the same few minutes have to speak the way you do about a SA victim who is aged 5-9. I think maybe you could just look inward and reconsider your words and tone on this topic. It’s just constructive criticism. I’ve listened for years. Don’t be defensive - maybe just listen and think about considering the way you speak of these crimes.

Your shitty commentary on SA, especially SA of a small child
