About this listen

In the last episode of the series, James finds someone who can spin a traditional, timeless campfire story. This one’s from the Aleutian Islands… and it answers the questions of where bears come from, and why they’re sometimes so angry with us.©2023 Future Projects Media LLC (P)2023 Audible Originals LLC

Charismatic narrator and storytellers. Funny stories, disturbing stories, mysterious stories all told by people who all seen to be expert storytellers. Made me smile to myself a few times. Lost myself in the scenes. Well-placed bits of music and background music throughout.

Unique, well executed podcast

The stories told were incredible and although (to my knowledge) I'm not indigenous, I deeply felt the sadness and fear. I didn't know that there interment camps during the Japan-American War nor the Russian-American massacre of women, children & elders. Bless all that have passed.

I thought Ghost Story was going to be the best show of 2023, but this more than exceeds that show!

I used a free trial to listen to this series and it is so good that I would pay to subscribe if I was guaranteed something like this. I listened to it all in one afternoon while working in the garden and I miss it already.

It’s full of stories and people that will linger with me for a while. The series is so nuanced. There’s lore and humour and big emotions. The writing is strong. Though not a serial, the episodes weave together and build to a thoughtful finale.

The score is really seamless and melt into the show. And the tone is consistent. The sound design has some really nice thoughtfully built moments that enhance the storytelling to in subtle, but pulsating ways.

I enjoyed the whole thing, but eps 2, 5 and 6 are highlights!

One of the best shows I’ve maybe ever heard

This is the best podcast. The slice of Alaskan Native stories was so compelling and is just a piece of the history that most people do not know. It left me wanting more.

There was absolutely nothing to dislike. This podcast transports you into moments, with real people, real scenery, and sensational stories. I would recommend this podcast to ANYBODY. Some of the oral traditions gave me goosebumps, and the way the orators told them gives you a true connection to land and culture. Loved everything about this podcast.
