  • Music as a Life’s Soundtrack (and the ‘80s were the best)
    Apr 15 2025

Music is an integral part of most of our lives, as you can tell by the fact that you don’t care who sees you dancing when the grocery store jams hit hard. To hit all the right notes on this topic, Danielle and Cheryl sit down with guest Kennedy Elsey (of Boston's Mix 104.1 Karson & Kennedy morning show fame). When the three women were younger, reading liner notes to new records was an hours-long activity, as was waiting patiently for the DJ to stop talking so they could tape record their favorite songs. And who didn’t love all those happy yet completely nonsensical lyrics of the ‘80s? But the decade wasn’t all fun and games. Some unfortunate souls lived under the constant threat of Columbia House Records – this “one penny for 13 cassettes” promise often translated to a terrifying life time commitment that might go down on your permanent record. Danielle, Cheryl and Kennedy bring back memories of Sony Sport Walkman, Discman, and 10-CD Changers, and then finish up by sailing away with yacht rock.

    About Kennedy Elsey:

As the girl half of Karson & Kennedy, you can hear Kennedy every weekday morning from 5:30-10am on Mix 104.1. She grew up in suburban Chicago and graduated from Drake University with a double major in Theater and Psychology. Her career brought her to Boston, by way of Tucson, AZ; Tallahassee, FL; and Memphis, TN. She lives with mental illness, including bipolar disorder, and uses her time behind a microphone to fight fiercely to stop the stigma that goes hand in hand with mental illness. She is proud to call the ‘80s her soundtrack, and Prince is her king.

  • Tossing out the Golden Rule
    Apr 8 2025

Cheryl and Danielle begin Episode 12 by discussing what some people choose to share on social media. Coming from a time where kids were trucks without governors and there wasn’t a threat of actions being blasted into the ether, it’s amazing what people will post these days. Parents will post kids throwing up; teens will post themselves doing stupid stuff. Is nothing sacred? Which brings the two ladies to life’s biggest lesson – by letting go of the Golden Rule (do unto others as you would have them do unto you) sometimes you enjoy your relationships more. When you stop expecting someone to act as you would, it gives you more space to allow them to be them, and you to be you. Cheryl and Danielle transition into being late (a common trait) and how it’s more common these days because…it’s seasonal clothing transition time. We have to try on clothes before we meet up with friends, as winter is transitioning into spring and outfits are coming out of hibernation (translation: nothing fits). The ladies also ask, who the hell can wear five-inch heels anymore? Not them.

  • ‘80s TV and VHS exercise love
    Apr 1 2025

In Episode 11, Danielle and Cheryl dive into the days of old school movies (Bueller…Bueller) and TV, as they reminisce about the ones they loved in their childhood (think Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Silver Spoons, Mash, Different Strokes, Cheers). And of course, there are shows they loved that wouldn’t exactly play today (looking squarely at you, Archie Bunker). But who doesn’t love a VHS tape (be kind, rewind)? After all, that’s how we got our exercise back in the day - thanks to ‘80s ladies like Kathy Smith and Tamilee Webb. While they look back on those times fondly, these days Danielle and Cheryl are keen on hanging up their purple thong leotards and leg warmers in favor of a walking pad, weighted vest, and Netflix binge.
