One big reason Celiac Disease is underdiagnosed is that it requires gluten ingestion for testing accuracy. Many people cut out gluten and feel better and There are so many who don't want to go back to eating gluten free a diagnosis.
Research, published in the journal Gastroenterology, on Interleukin-2 has helped to create a new testing method that would allow people who are already on a gluten free diet to be accurately tested for Celiac Disease, without the need for gluten ingestion.
“By stimulating T cells after a blood draw, patients can avoid the need to return to gluten and the suffering that often comes with that – for the sole purpose of diagnosis. That is a major step towards improving outcomes for patients.”
