Fall Fishing Blowout at Lake Guntersville: Catch Bass, Crappie, and More in Alabama's Thriving Fishery

  • Summary

  • As of November 9, 2024, the fishing scene at Lake Guntersville, Alabama is absolutely thriving, especially with the fall season in full swing. Here’s what you need to know for a successful day on the water.

    ### Weather and Time
The weather is cooling down, with cooler nights that have the big fish biting aggressively. Sunrise today is at around 6:30 AM, and sunset will be at about 4:45 PM. This time of year, the shorter days and cooler temperatures make for ideal fishing conditions.

    ### Fish Activity
Fish activity is high, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours. Major bite times are expected between 8:46 AM and 10:46 AM, and again in the late afternoon. The cooler nights have really activated the fish, making these periods prime for catching.

    ### Types and Amounts of Fish
Yesterday saw a plethora of fish caught, including largemouth bass, spotted bass, and crappie. Bass fishing has been exceptional, with clients landing an average of 40 fish per day. The sizes range from 14 inches to 6-pounders, with the best five fish often weighing between 16-18 pounds. Crappie fishing is also strong, with anglers catching about 50 crappie per day, mostly around bridges, brushpiles, and bluffs.

    ### Best Lures and Bait
For bass, frogging and flipping are by far the best methods. Using lures like hair jigs and spoons out deep, and chatterbaits or horny toads around the edges, has been highly effective. For crappie, tight-lining a 1/16 oz Bobby Garland jig in monkey milk or albino color with 4lb test line and a medium action rod is the way to go.

    ### Hot Spots
Some hot spots to consider include the creek ledges, which still have several schools of bass out deep. The shad chasers are also on the move, making areas with baitfish activity particularly promising. Additionally, docks, brushpiles, and shady banks are excellent spots, especially during the early morning and late evening.

Overall, Lake Guntersville is offering some of the best fall fishing you can find, with plenty of action and a variety of fish to target. Make sure to get your gear ready and hit the water during those prime bite times for an unforgettable fishing experience.
