Fall Fishing Frenzy at Lake Guntersville: Tackle the Best Spots and Lures for a Bountiful Day on the Water

  • Summary

  • As of November 7, 2024, the fishing scene at Lake Guntersville, Alabama is buzzing with activity. Here’s what you need to know for a successful day on the water.

    ### Weather and Sunrise/Sunset
The weather is cooling down, with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to the mid-60s, making it ideal for fall fishing. Sunrise is at around 6:30 AM, and sunset is expected at about 4:45 PM. These cooler nights have really gotten the big fish biting.

    ### Fish Activity
The bass fishing has been exceptional, with anglers catching a wide range of fish sizes, from 14 inches up to 6-pounders. The average catch per day has been around 40 fish, with the best five fish per day weighing between 16-19 pounds. The cooler temperatures and shorter days have the bass feeding aggressively.

    ### Best Lures and Bait
For catching the big ones, frogging and flipping are the go-to techniques. Soft plastics have also proven highly effective across various depths. Moving baits like hair jigs and spoons are also yielding great results, especially out in deeper waters. For crappie, tight lining a 1/16 oz Bobby Garland in monkey milk or albino color on 4lb test line with a 7-foot medium action rod has been successful.

    ### Hot Spots
The creek ledges still have several schools of bass out deep, and the shad chasers are on the move. Bridges, brush piles, and bluffs are also hot spots, particularly for crappie. The grass beds, although dying off, still hold a good number of bass, especially in the shallower areas.

    ### Tidal Report
Lake Guntersville is a freshwater lake and does not have tides. However, the current movement due to water releases from the dam can affect fish behavior. Currently, the water is cooling off and the current is moving, which is enhancing the fish activity.

Overall, this fall season is shaping up to be one of the best for fishing at Lake Guntersville. With the right lures and knowledge of the hot spots, you’re set for a memorable day on the water.
