    Today’s Poetry Time

    ____________________________________________________

We got nothing done and the weekend was perfect.

By Monday morning, we've barely made a dent in our
weekend tasks. Things still need fixed, errands run,
clothes put away, problems solved. Each weekend,
we make a list and check off boxes until the human
instinct to enjoy kicks in. Then we relax, go outside,
find coffee shops and ice cream stands, pop up markets,
walking trails. We visit parks and diners, say yes when
invited to experience the world around us. At the end,
we're full and happy and left with a long list, a lingering
lie that maybe we should have delayed living until work
was done. Only, we never do. And what a beautiful thing
that is. To be so human that despite responsibility and
often logic, we reach so desperately for joy.

To honor the top 100 albums (and my favorite poet) **I planned to have** the poems for the rest of this series to all come from Mary Oliver :)

However, I am switching to Hannah Ro for today because this poem touched me and is so appropriate after this tumultuous week.

ONLY 70 ALBUMS TO GO!!! My word.

(It occurred to me recently that I’m really going to miss this project once we’re through.)

    Onward and upward we continue.

    -

Oh it’s a major endeavor, alright.

I’m going to try to listen to at least 10 albums a week for the rest of the year!

    Yeah, I’m not joking.

Media, art, and entertainment publication Paste Magazine came out with a list of the 300 best albums and we’re going to go through them all! Well, I’m going to.

And then we’re going to talk about it! Great tracks, themes, history, info, related artists, cultural context, personal experiences- they’re all going to play a part in these reviews.

Totally stoked because I love music. (And a little intimidated! Because this is a lot to process)

    -

If we keep up with an episode per week featuring 10 albums each, we’ll just about finish by the end of 2024.

    -

Hold close all those important to you and take care of your mental health. Hope you have an amazing and restful weekend!! Stay safe-

    I’ll see you Monday,

    C :)

  • What’s Up With Adult Friendships? Part Four
    Nov 7 2024
    Well, we’ve reached the-

    BEGINNING.

We’ve reached the beginning of this topic. You thought I was going to say end, perhaps because we’ve been talking about it all week?

    We were wrong.

What is a friend and what can I start to do, where can I go to find them?? That’s some of what we cover today.

And I, too, thought that four days in a row could potentially be enough to cover adult friendships in a way that would be meaningful to me and to others. But nope, there’s so much more to it.

So we’re going to keep talking, and I hope you keep listening.

Thanks so much for being here,

    Nov 6 2024
There’s an epidemic of loneliness afoot.

It’s been studied and documented in the US, but it impacts adults across the globe who feel disconnected from their communities and isolated in their existence.

I don’t think we can adequately discuss friendship this week without talking about loneliness.

    -

I tried to tread gently while still moving forward; however, it’s okay if you don’t have the capacity for this today.

Find spaces where you feel safe.

Take care of yourself, and others if you can,

Does anyone read descriptions? I admit, I don’t always when I listen to podcasts but in case you do, be forewarned:

I’VE LOST MOST OF MY VOICE AND IT MIGHT BE DISORIENTING

    Apologies!

I actually dont hate the way it sounds, it just doesn’t sound like “Me.” I’m pretty thrilled to sound like anything at all because by the end of yesterday there was wayyyyyyy less of it available than you’ll hear in this episode and I got some back with tea and honey and water and rest.

I will continue to do the same, and hopefully we’ll have more tomorrow!

    -

And yes I realized after the fact that my mic was on during the intro, but it didn’t bother me enough to make me want to re-do the beginning. Life is life! Start at 1:20 if it gets on your nerves tho ;)

    -

We’re continuing our week on adult friendship and talking about the concept and lived reality of being a “Floater Friend.” Plus a little of what you can do about it.

So glad you’re here. Please take care during what will be an inevitably trying Election Day,

We’re talking about adult friendships this week. All week. (Minus the albums episode.)

We’ve only done this one other time, and that time was also something mental health related because it is complex and important-

And of course friendship impacts your mental health! Immensely.

Because the people you spend time with have influence over how your life goes.

I’ve been thinking about discussing this issue for awhile but now we’re finally getting into it

And we’re starting with some of the nice parts! Because it’s Monday.

    Glad you’re here, as always,

    The Uses of Sorrow

(In my sleep I dreamed this poem)

Someone I loved once gave me
    a box full of darkness.

It took me years to understand
that this, too, was a gift.
