Impolitic with John Heilemann

By: Audacy | Puck
  • Summary

  • Join Puck’s chief political columnist, MSNBC/NBC News national affairs analyst, and best-selling author John Heilemann as he roams the corridors of power and influence in America on this twice-weekly interview show, taking you behind the scenes and beyond the headlines with the people who shape and shift our culture: icons and up-and-comers, incumbents and insurgents, moguls and machers in the overlapping worlds of politics, entertainment, tech, business, sports, media, and beyond. The conversations are rich and revealing, unrehearsed and unexpected … and reliably impolitic. A Puck-Audacy joint, new episodes drop every Wednesday and Friday.

  • M. Gessen: What Putin Wants (Beyond Making Trump His Bitch)
    Mar 10 2025
John is joined by New York Times opinion columnist M. Gessen to discuss Donald Trump’s affinity for Vladimir Putin and what it means for Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine, and the whole of Europe. Gessen, winner of the 2017 National Book Award for The Future Is History: How Totalitarianism Reclaimed Russia, contends it’s now crystal clear that the U.S. has switched sides in the Ukraine war and offers a number of entwined explanations as to Trump’s motives for doing so; that Putin’s larger territorial/imperial ambitions are rooted in his fixation on the 1945 Yalta accords and the framework established there by FDR, Stalin, and Churchill; and that Europe's swift and dramatic response to Trump's turn against Zelensky may prove as historic as the other paradigm-shifting events of the past fortnight. • Robert Reich: Donald Trump’s Stagflation Nation & Why Dems Can’t Play Possum
    Mar 7 2025
John is joined by former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich to discuss Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress and his already beleaguered economic agenda. Reich argues that Trump’s speech was most striking for its lack of focus on the concerns (notably, the high cost of living) most responsible for his reelection; his administration's policies (including but not limited to stiff tariffs on foreign goods) are bound to exacerbate those concerns; the worst fears of Wall Street—that America is headed for a bout of stagflation—are likely to prove prescient; and Elon Musk’s desire to mess with Social Security is a political disaster in the making for the White House and the GOP. Reich also addresses James Carville’s advice that Democrats play dead and let Trump 2.0 self-destruct: “It’s bullshit.” To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Points of view

I first saw John Heilemann on Nicks Wallace’s MSNBC show and I liked listening to his point of view of the various topics. It’s better here because it’s more than a few minutes.
John’s guests are the best of the best so thanks for letting us get to hear their full opinions on whatever is going on at the time.

Insightful and important!!

Thank you so much for what you do, John and for bringing a very pertinent guest on, such as Debbie Dingell. The piece with her on The Circus was something I often revisited because it brought such high hopes to the eminent election of Joe Biden .They were hopes for much needed change to the political climate. This deeper dive really shed light into the important causes Ms. Dingell values and her invaluable work in Congress. I’d like to thank her for her bravery in sharing personal experiences that will undoubtedly help people in domestic violence situations and also surprisingly, in vaccine hesitations matters. You are such a brilliant light ,John and I personally thank you for drawing out many important points from Not only this interview, but every one you undertake!

Great News!

I learned so much! Maybe I don't want to live forever but the possibility of living longer with a better quality of life has never been more accessible than it is today. I can't wait to watch the PBS series. I will find it and enjoy it I'm sure. thank you John Heilman for having such interesting guests!
