  • 255 - Hypervigilance, growing up around alcoholism with Seanna Smith
    Nov 9 2024

In this episode of How I Quit Alcohol, Seana Smith shares her powerful story, reflecting on a childhood marked by both an idyllic lifestyle and the unpredictability of having an alcoholic father. Growing up around alcoholism left her in a constant state of hypervigilance, never quite knowing which version of him would appear each day. From the outside, Seana’s life looked perfect: an Oxford graduate, a thriving career with the BBC and Channel 9, a bestselling author, a happy marriage, and four vibrant children. Yet behind the scenes, alcohol was quietly eroding her health, emotional well-being, and sense of self.

With her engaging style and wit, Seana unveils the hidden challenges of her lifelong battle with alcohol, exploring how it impacted every aspect of her life—and ultimately, how she found the strength to change.

bender

I haven't drank in 47 days....

I spent my "Sunday Funday" bingeing the podcast instead of dancing drunk in the kitchen!

I enjoy the stories and appreciate how the people are her friends.

it's hard having sober friends these days!

How to navigate early sobriety

Dani is clearly a kind soul with a purpose - to help others get more from life and reach their full potential. I started listening to her and this podcast when I first had the inclination to give up drinking. This podcast shared tools and how to change your mindset and so much more to help anyone with giving up any unhealthy habits really but obviously the emphasis is on alcohol here. It has been instrumental for me and my journey with sobriety thus far. I could go on and on but to keep it brief - I definitely recommend!
